Since joining SDA in 2007, Brett has become an invaluable asset to SDA’s clients. He has developed a comprehensive knowledge of federal programs in key areas that give our clients a distinct advantage in prioritizing policy and funding targets. His understanding of emerging priorities on Capitol Hill and within the executive branch, including the White House, provides valuable insight into clients’ strategic planning. Brett’s strong network of contacts in both Congress and Federal agencies, along with a wide variety of Washington trade and stakeholder groups, allows him to gain valuable information and ensure clients’ priorities get heard and become elevated.
Brett’s expertise includes all modes of transportation, energy and environment, the budget and appropriations process, tax legislation, the federal grant process, economic development, workforce development, education, international trade and customs issues, water infrastructure issues, legislative drafting, and the Administrative Procedure Act. He also has a strong ability to analyze and communicate the impact of federal laws, regulations, and pending legislation on client interests. Brett oversees a number of the firm’s local government, trade association and corporate clients. Brett provides regular briefings on federal issues and strategy to clients and is an active participant on panels to share his knowledge on Washington developments.
Brett received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and graduated cum laude from American University-Washington College of Law. He is a member of the Maryland and D.C. bars. Before joining the SDA team, Brett worked for the American Road & Transportation Builder’s Association (ARTBA) and clerked in both the legislative and executive branches of the federal government.
